With Her Two Hands
Formerly known as Trades Lady Happy Hour, With Her Two Hands is a weekly podcast dedicated to celebrating women in the trades. Live, Candid and Unscripted conversations with women who work in the trades building, fixing and making things with their own two hands. Women make up less than 10% of trades people, and in some industry the numbers are as low as 2%. This podcast seeks to change that by shining a light on these incredible women. Celebrating them, sharing their struggles as women in incredibly male dominated fields, and increasing their visibility to attract, retain and create space for that number to start to increase. If she can see it she can BE it. And if HE can see it, he can BELIEVE it. Tune in for these candid conversations every week. Listen, learn, laugh and get to know the women who keep the world running.

Special Episode! Guests: Faye Hadley and Angelina Alcantar on Imposter Syndrome.
This week on With Her Two Hands we’re talking about a topic that I hear from women in the trades over and over again - dealing with Imposter Syndrome. I’ve invited 2 successful and talented women, Faye Hadley and Angelina Alcantar, to join me and share their experiences and perspectives. This is one you don’t want to miss! Imposter syndrome is defined as the “condition of feeling anxious and not experiencing success internally, despite being high performing in external objective ways. This condition often results in people feeling like a fraud or a phony and doubting their abilities.”
I hear it over and over and over again from women in the trades, and its something i experience myself. It’s ironic to me that often when we feel this the most, we think we are the only ones and that those we admire surely never feel that way. And yet often, they do. Perhaps if we share these experiences more, it will take the edge off by simply knowing we are not alone. If someone we see as successful also experiences it, then just maybe we are objectively successful as well.
About this week’s guests: Faye Hadley is an ASE Master Technician, Toyota Specialist, Industry Influencer and my co-host on All Girls Garage on MotorTrend TV. Angelina Alcantar is an ASE Master Technician, College level Automotive Instructor at Riverside City College and new mom!

Guest: Ebonie Graham - Diesel Technician
The percentages of hands on trades people that are women is below 4% across the trades. But a decade ago, that number was even lower. Tonight's guest has been paving the way for 10 years as a Diesel Technician, engine rebuilder, and field Service Power Generation Technician. Ebonie graduated with Honors from Universal Technical Institute's automotive tech program, but got the opportunity to step into the Diesel world after graduation, and hasn't looked back since. Now, Ebonie travels all over the state of Georgia to maintain, diagnose and rebuild the engines that are attached to the alternators that power buildings and troubleshooting and diagnosing Controllers and Automatic transfer switches. So, instead of working with Cummins 6.7L engines, she's now certified to play on the biggest engine Cummins manufactures which is 95L! Ebonie also recently graduated from Georgia State University with my Associate Degree in Business!

Guest: Ana - Motorcycle Mechanic
Hailing from Sau Paulo, Brazil Ana fell in love with motorcycles while working as a bartender at a restaurant where the owner also built custom bikes. She decided to quit bartending and pursue motorcycles as a career. But her path was not easy and she was constantly discouraged from pursuing her dream. Shop after shop tried to convince her to stay in the office, if she was offered a position at all.
She didn't let that stop her, and now works at a shop where she is respected as a woman and as a motorcycle mechanic.
Ana even started her own group, Mulheres Mecanicas do Brazil, to bring together female mechanics in her country and raise awareness about them.

Guest: Esmii Moore - Automotive Technician, Mobile Mechanic Business owner and mom!
Trigger warning: During this episode our guest talks candidly about her postpartum depression. If you or someone you know is experiencing postpartum depression please scroll to the end of this description for resources.
Esmii Moore is an automotive technician, owns her own mobile mechanic business and a mom of 2 adorable littles. In this episode of With Her Two Hands, Esmii shares the challenges she has faced from the very beginning when she expressed interest in cars and was told by her family that it’s not for women. With support from her step father she pursued it in highschool anyway. When she went to trades school she encountered more sexism and hostility, but kept pushing and ultimately became their first female valedictorian. But the road kept getting more challenging. While she landed a job right away and was advanced quickly to a position as a transmission specialist apprentice, she found herself in an incredibly hostile environment and endured both sexual harassment, racial slurs, and incredibly inappropriate behaviour. When human resources proved unhelpful, she realized that going it on her own would be a better option, and that led her to starting her own Mobile Mechanic business. She balances being a mom to 2 littles with being a business owner taking on all sorts of jobs both big and small. During our conversation, Esmii is candid and outspoken about both the harassment she experienced, and the postpartum depression she experienced after the birth of her child.
Despite all of her challenges, she has come out on the other side upbeat and positive and enthusiastic about the future and her business. She remains passionate about the industry and the work that she does.

Guest: Pa'Trice Frazier - Master Welder, Welding Instructor and advocate for the trades.
We talk often about how the trades is heavily male dominated, this is not news. Let's be honest though, it is specifically dominated by white men. This week's guest is all too familiar with the lack of diversity in the trades in general and specifically in the welding industry. Pa'Trice Frazier is the only Black Female Welding instructor in the Philadelphia Metro area, and is a nationally recognized master welder. Through her business, Weld Jointed, she is committed to bringing more diversity to the industry she loves and in her own words she is "on a mission to raise awareness and be a brand ambassador for welding as a career and to teach skills to anyone who ever hoped for more out of life."
In this episode, we have a open and candid conversation about the lack of diversity in the trades, and what can be done about it. Pa'Trice has a great attitude and perspective and shares some great words of wisdom throughout the episode.

Guest: Riley Schlick - Carburetor rebuilder and business owner at 17
This episodes guest is anything but an average teenager. While most young people these days know little of carburetors, and it is still relatively uncommon to find young girls pursuing automotive hobbies, Riley and her business Riley's Rebuilds, are difficult to not take notice of. Riley spent her teen years perfecting the art of rebuilding carburetors and used the money she made from her small business to not only buy her own first car, but also to buy all the parts to fix it up and turn it into a screen accurate Jurassic Park Jeep replica.
When Riley’s story came into the public eye, as a simple request on social media for old carburetor parts to meet her client’s needs went viral, Riley found her small business suddenly flooded with support and requests for work. More work, in fact, than she could handle on her own. This is where her story goes from pretty cool to incredibly impressive. Riley enlisted 3 of her girlfriends into her business, taught them the ins and outs of carburetors, and after school the 4 of them would spend their time rebuilding carburetors.
I can not say enough about how impressive and inspiring I find this. To start a business in a non-traditional field, to do it at such a young age, and then to use it to welcome more young women into the industry and inspire others, is simply incredible. Her humility and grace about the whole thing makes it even that much more impressive. She didn’t set out to be an inspiration or a change maker, but she accomplished just that. Since her story went viral - Riley has had the opportunity to travel the country to attend trade shows including SEMA, and been invited to be a guest on multiple tv productions, including joining Bogi and Faye for an episode of All Girls Garage which airs this weekend!
These are all things that, in her words, "I never thought would happen in my lifetime. Dreams do come true and if you are ready when the opportunity comes, jump on the wave and try to ride it as long as you can."
