With Her Two Hands

Formerly known as Trades Lady Happy Hour, With Her Two Hands is a weekly podcast dedicated to celebrating women in the trades. Live, Candid and Unscripted conversations with women who work in the trades building, fixing and making things with their own two hands. Women make up less than 10% of trades people, and in some industry the numbers are as low as 2%. This podcast seeks to change that by shining a light on these incredible women. Celebrating them, sharing their struggles as women in incredibly male dominated fields, and increasing their visibility to attract, retain and create space for that number to start to increase. If she can see it she can BE it. And if HE can see it, he can BELIEVE it. Tune in for these candid conversations every week. Listen, learn, laugh and get to know the women who keep the world running.

This week I am joined by Tiffany Kelly, whose insatiable curiosity and drive to learn, despite her fears, have led her to a life full of excitement and new challenges. Her adventure began in high school through an auto body program, where she discovered her passion for the auto industry. Tiffany eventually picked up the motorcycle bug. She bought a bike and started racing which then led her to racing cars as well. Realizing the importance of being able to work on her own race vehicle drove her to dive into the wrenching side of the sport. Despite maintaining full time jobs outside of automotive, Tiffany and her husband started a side business building and fabricating track cars and also created a driving school! Recently, Tiffany was featured this year on Discovery Channel’s new series Getaway Driver!
Come along and listen in for more of her story and all the details of her exciting life in the sky, on the road, on the track and in the trades!

Ana Broyles’ journey into the automotive world began in a high school shop class. Her interest was further sparked during summers working at a KTM motorcycle and sportscar shop. The techs there encouraged her curiosity, allowing her to observe and eventually get hands-on experience, setting the foundation for her future career. She was recruited by UTI where she thrived and which eventually landed her a job at BMW. Ana is now a Master Tech for BMW as well as a High Voltage Specialist. She decided to take on a 2002tii car restoration project, which turned out to be more challenging than she had anticipated. Progress was slow as she worked on it sporadically over several years. In search of a new challenge and to distract herself from the painstaking restoration project and the death of her father, Ana ventured into the world of racing. Although she found it thrilling, a serious accident that totaled her racing car made her reconsider the dangers and costs associated with the sport. Still craving the thrill of the sport, Ana transitioned to road and mountain bike racing.
Tune in as Ana shares how her father’s hobby inspired her automotive journey, how shop life surprised her and what it was like coming up as a female in the industry.

Meet Alex Chiarore, a no nonsense, calls-it-like-she-sees-it, professional automotive painter and body tech. Seventeen years ago, she embarked on her career through a school co-op program, discovering an enduring love for paint and body work. Throughout her career, she experimented with estimating and even managed a shop for a few years. However, she found herself missing the hands-on work she truly enjoyed. She returned to a collision and restoration shop where she could continue her passion for paint and body. Alex is unapologetic about knowing her worth and advocates for women to stay vigilant about their work environments, urging them to avoid becoming “boiling frogs.”
In a candid conversation, Alex opens up about her biggest obstacle: herself. She discusses her history of frequently changing jobs and burning bridges, and shares the pivotal moment when she realized that attitude is everything. Alex finds joy in seeing young women join the industry and feels a deep sense of fulfillment in her work. She also shares her quirky pre-paint superstition that she follows diligently.
