With Her Two Hands

Formerly known as Trades Lady Happy Hour, With Her Two Hands is a weekly podcast dedicated to celebrating women in the trades. Live, Candid and Unscripted conversations with women who work in the trades building, fixing and making things with their own two hands. Women make up less than 10% of trades people, and in some industry the numbers are as low as 2%. This podcast seeks to change that by shining a light on these incredible women. Celebrating them, sharing their struggles as women in incredibly male dominated fields, and increasing their visibility to attract, retain and create space for that number to start to increase. If she can see it she can BE it. And if HE can see it, he can BELIEVE it. Tune in for these candid conversations every week. Listen, learn, laugh and get to know the women who keep the world running.

Guest:  Missy Dutto - Auto and Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technician
Fantastic chat with Missy Dutto who shared her journey from a daddy’s girl who grew up doing paint and body with her father for as long as she can remember (and probably earlier!) to where she is now as the only mechanic at the water company she works for, and as an instructor at the same school she graduated from. Well, the second school. She went to Wyo Tech for collision and upholstery and the Skyline College for automotive. Missy was candid about her experiences, both the good and the bad. And incredibly honest and humble in admitting what, I believe, is true for so many of us - that it is not having confidence in ourselves that so often is the biggest thing holding us back.

This week on we meet Elizabeth “Betty” Jorgenson, a certified technician whose career journey highlights the critical issues of retention and respect in the trades. Elizabeth fell in love with mechanics while helping her dad in the shop during high school, and despite pushback in her hometown about women pursuing the trades, she followed her passion and earned her associate’s degree in Automotive Service Technology. But once in the industry, she faced poor working conditions and blatant sexism that eventually pushed her out of automotive and into the world of heavy equipment repair—where she found better pay, a healthier work environment, and the support she had long deserved. While her heart is still in automotive, Elizabeth’s story is a stark reminder of how much work there is to do to make the trades a place where women not only start—but stay.
Tune in for an honest and inspiring conversation that challenges the industry and celebrates one woman’s determination to thrive, wherever the work takes her.

Haley Ingle is currently a Heavy Equipment Mechanic at CAT, but her journey to get there has been anything but ordinary. She grew up working on boats and four-wheelers, developing a hands-on passion for mechanics at an early age. She broke into the industry by landing a job at a local off-road shop, starting with sweeping floors before working her way up through parts and service and eventually turning wrenches herself. While gaining hands-on experience, she also attended technical college to further her skills. Over the years, Haley built an impressive resume, working for industry giants like Peterbilt and Kenworth. In addition to her career, she actively contributes to the Alabama Trucking Association and a local technical college, helping shape the next generation of technicians.
